In a press event held in Tokyo on Friday morning, Capcom announced Resident Evil Chronicles HD, as well as took the opportunity to clarify some of the questions surrounding the recently released trailer of Resident Evil 6.

The Resident Evil Revelations HD game will be a high-definition compilation featuring The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles, a port of the Wii versions over to the PS3, a fate which seems to befall all light-gun shooters these days.

The new game will feature Move support, and will be available at both stores and via download from the PSN. Although no release date was given, the game was said to be ‘coming soon’, and could well push the total number of Resident Evil games released in 2012 to four.

Other information released during the course of the event tackled the mysteries and question raised due to the three and a half minute trailer released for Resident Evil 6 the previous day.

Capcom confirmed that the game would focus around Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield, but that there will also be a third, as yet unnamed, third protagonist. Current speculation suggests that each character may have a unique play style, with Leon playing like a more traditional Resident Evil game, Chris as a duck-and-cover shooter, and the unnamed character with a focus on melee combat. The name of Leon’s sidekick, agent Helena Harper, was also announced, together with the regenerating enemy shown in the trailer, named Javo.

Leon and Chris’s stories are set 10 years after the Raccoon City incident, and will take place at the same time as one another within the story.

Resident Evil 6 will launch in the West on 22 November on PS3 and Xbox 360, with a PC version to be released some time following the console version.
