Rockstar games have released a new video detailing the combat and movement mechanics which will feature in their new game, Max Payne 3, due for release May 18. The video predominately focuses on a few important factors – fluid movement while shooting, and a cinematic feel.

As detailed in the video, Max Payne will dynamically shift his posture and position depending on the chosen target. Rockstar believe that this will give Max Payne 3 the fidelity and precision of a first person shooter within a third person experience.

Be it during bullet-time or regular gameplay, duel-wielding or a single gun, flying through the air or lying prone on the ground, Max will have a full range of movement and aiming available to him.

Simply looking at the video, we can see that Max Payne 3 will be an beautiful game to behold. In the sections shown in the video we can see environments change and break depending on the players actions – simple additions which are becoming more common in games, but which make then world feel that little bit more real.

For many of us it will have been a long time since we played a Rockstar game which took us down a narrow path rather than give us an open world to play in, but if any game can remind us of how diverse the studio can be, Max Payne 3 looks like the one to do it.

The game will be released in North America 15 May, and in Europe 18 May for PS3 and Xbox 360, and a PC version of the game is scheduled for release 29 May / 1 June.
