TorrentFreak have reported that large European games publishers are in the process of tracking the IP addresses of gamers who have pirated their products.

The torrent news site has stated that Eidos, Square Enix, Atari and Codemasters are among those games companies involved in the process of tracking European users who have downloaded their games illegally through their IP address. Those accused of having pirated their games are receiving letters demanding payment, some asking for sums in the region of 800 Euros.

Recently, The Witcher developer CD Projekt decided to stop demanding payment from users tracked using their IP addresses, and many have raised concerns that the practice may result in innocent users be accused of piracy.

Joystuck have contacted these publishers for their response, but currently have not received any additional information.
