Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D gets UK release date
The 3D remake of the phenominally successful Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released in the UK for the Nintendo 3DS on 8 March.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D brings the hugely successful instalment of the Metal Gear saga to the new Nintendo handheld. The game charts the early adventures of Big Boss, the linchpin of the series, as he battles through a Soviet held jungle at the height of the Cold War.
Utilising one of the most in-depth stealth systems used in the series, players must tailor their camouflage to the situation to avoid detection. Players are also required to hunt for food to regain stamina and bandage themselves following battle.
With the shift to Nintendo’s handheld, the classic gameplay has undergone an overhaul to make use of the 3DS hardware. Naturally the game makes use of the unique 3DS 3D screen, however, you can also shift in to a first person perspective to navigate through the jungle environment more efficiently.
Further additions include the rather gimmicky inclusion of custom camouflage via the 3DS inbuilt camera. Simply take a picture of an object, and the game with map it onto Snake’s stealth suit. However, it is up to you to make sure you choose an object which keeps him hidden…
Given the impending release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, it is up for debate how relevant the 3DS version of the game will be, especially given the circle-pad pro requirement. Nevertheless, Metal Gear Solid 3 remains one of the definitive titles of the PS2 era, and if the remake retains what made the original version brilliant, it is a must own for all 3DS owners.
